Tour to Ahuano – Rio Napo and Arajuno

1 to 2 day- tour
After having breakfast in Tena, we will leave by bus to Ahuano which takes approximately 1 hour. In Ahuano we will board a motor canoe (equipped with life jackets), and float down the Napo River first and later continue on the Arajuno River.
A short walk will lead us to the Sacha Samay Museum, where we will see a variety of handicrafts, ceramics, traditional natural hunting and fishing tools as well as different kinds of traps. You will also have the possibility to try to shoot in the air with a traditional blowtube.
After having visited the Sacha Samay Museum, lunch will be served.
We continue our trip on the Arajuno River in canoe and it will be possible for those who want, to swim in the crystalline water of this calm and safe river.
Later on we will arrive at the AmaZoonico Park, which is an animal rescue centre.
Here we will observe an enormous variety of animal species:
Reptiles like caimans, turtles, boas, etc.
Bird species like wild turkeys, trumpeters, toucans, parrots, parakeets, owls, etc.
Mammals: different monkey species, tapir, coati, capybara, ocelot and peccary.
The Amazoonico is one of the few places where you can observe such a great variety of wildlife species; many of them are threatened with extinction.
After the visit of the Amazoonico we will return to Ahuano by canoe.
There is also the possibility to visit a balsa wood or ceramic workshop where typical Kichwa handicrafts are produced.
We continue then floating up the Napo River where we can take the bus going back to Tena.
If you have chosen a 2-day tour, we will stay in a jungle cabin and have dinner there.
